Supporting cinema Value for your business

A film can give your business opportunities for visibility, relationships and a closer connection to a place and its communities. You can sponsor a production, bring your brand into the story or invest in the project: each option has different objectives, commitments and tax benefits.

01

Sponsor a film

Your business supports the film in exchange for agreed communication activities: branding, content, events or other initiatives connected with the project.

The cost is deductible as advertising expenditure, potentially in full, when the partnership has a genuine promotional purpose for your business and is documented. VAT is recoverable where your tax status allows. The benefit is a reduction in tax, rather than a refund of the amount paid.

02

Your brand within the story

Product placement brings a product or brand into the film in a way that fits the story. We agree how it will appear and the communication value it can offer your business while respecting the film’s identity.

Where the service qualifies as advertising, the tax benefit consists of deducting the cost and recovering VAT when eligible. The agreement defines the activities and fees; the brand’s presence is disclosed in accordance with the rules applicable to the film.

03

Share in the film’s results

An investment lets you participate in the project and, under the agreement, share in its financial results. Together we define the amount, use of funds, participation share and how you will receive updates about the film.

Revenue depends on the film’s performance and is not guaranteed. Investing also carries the risk of losing your capital; it is separate from advertising expenditure and has its own tax treatment.

04

Tax benefits for your business

For sponsorship and product placement, advertising costs are deductible, potentially in full, and VAT is recoverable when the tax requirements are met. A deduction reduces the income on which tax is calculated: the actual saving depends on the business’s tax position.

For businesses participating as investors, a tax credit is a separate benefit that reduces tax payable. We include it in a proposal only when it is actually available to the project and the business, with a defined amount and the required approval from the Italian Ministry of Culture.

05

Contribute resources and expertise

You can also support a production with locations, equipment, accommodation, transport or services. The partnership draws on your business’s expertise and can include agreed communication activities connected with the film.

The project defines the value of the goods or services and each party’s contribution. Tax treatment follows the actual agreement: supplying a production does not itself create entitlement to a tax credit.

06

Support a story

You can contribute to a film without sharing in its revenue, or join a reward-based campaign. This option suits those who want to support a work and its cultural value.

A contribution to a production company does not automatically qualify for tax relief. We define how the support will be used and any rewards offered; raising capital through investment instruments follows separate rules and channels.

How the tax benefit works

Deducting the cost
Reduces the income on which tax is calculated. A fully deductible expense is subtracted in full from that income: the tax saving depends on your business’s tax position and does not equal the entire expense.
Recovering VAT
Eligible input VAT is offset against VAT due. The amount recoverable depends on your business’s activities and tax status.
Tax credit
Directly reduces tax payable, up to the approved amount. Only eligible businesses and investments qualify.

Let’s build a proposal for your business

We start with your objectives and the right film. You receive a proposal setting out activities, visibility, budget and timing; for an investment, we also define participation in results and reporting. With your tax adviser, we distinguish costs, tax savings and any revenue before commitments are made.
